ANACOM adds new codes to National Numbering Plan

ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações has decided to establish two new codes in the National Numbering Plan. The codes, "761" and "762", are for flat-rate call services, with a tariff ceiling of one and two euros respectively (excluding VAT).

These new codes can be used for the provision of innovative services that are emerging as a result of the ever greater use of broadband and are specifically for the payment of goods or content provided over the internet. In this case payment is made through a telephone call, the purpose of which is merely to charge the caller for the retail value of the service concerned. Typical uses of this service include subscription to publications, access to online games, film and music downloads or charging a card/account to subscribe to video on demand.

These flat-rate services make it is possible for access to always be provided in the same way, through the setting of a single price per call from any point in the country.

The price ceiling is applied irrespective of the length of call or the time that is made, and its retail value is tied to the code used to access the service. Therefore for the "761" code the maximum price per call is set at one euro (excluding VAT) and at two euros per call for the "762" code (also excluding VAT).

By ANACOM’s decision, the companies that are granted the right to use these numbers are also obliged to provide statistical information on the type and levels of use of the services provided through the "761" and "762" codes.
