ANACOM suspends PT Comunicações ADSL offer

ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações, has decided to suspend PT Comunicações' ADSL gross offer due to the existence of signs of breach to the non-discrimination principle fixed in the Exploitation of Public Telecommunications Networks Regulation.

At stake is, the possible inexistent pre-notice, necessary for the launch of the referred offer. In addition, ANACOM considers that competition distortions situations should be avoided.

As provided in the above-mentioned regulation, operators who run public telecommunications networks are required to ensure access to the network under "equality, transparency and non-discrimination conditions against adequate remuneration".

Thus, PT Comunicações must immediately inform ANACOM on compliance with the provisions contained in mentioned legal rule.

Should the rule not be complied with, PT Comunicações will have to immediately inform the interested parties that the offer will only be effective 30 working days after all the parties are informed.

This decision was made as a result of a claim submitted by Oni Telecom operator, on the 23rd of May 2002, according to which, PT Comunicações had not informed this operator of the launch of a gross ADSL offer.

ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, is the most common asymmetric transmission technology within the xDSL family. ADSL connections allow for high-speed data communications using the copper infrastructure pertaining to the fixed telephone service.
