Oniway allowed to provide GPRS services

/ Updated on 24.10.2002

ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações, considered that Oniway is allowed to provide GPRS services and for this purpose use the 95 numbering range, previously allocated by the regulator.

In this regard, Oniway is entitled, pursuant to the law, to apply for interconnection to the remaining mobile operators.

This resolution completes the one dated March 6, 2002 as a result of the inexistence interconnection agreements between Oniway and Optimus and Vodafone operators, aiming at clarifying the raised doubts.

The March resolution did not approve the application for allocation of GSM1800 frequencies to Oniway and determined, simultaneously, that the roaming agreement, established between Oniway and TMN must include third generation terminal equipment and network elements within the scope of the conditions defined by the UMTS tender.

ANACOM believes that the introduction of the so-called 2.5 generation services contributes to the development of UMTS services.
