New Board of Administration takes office today

The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) has a new Management Board as of today. Headed by Álvaro Dâmaso and also counting the presence of Saraiva Mendes and Maria do Carmo Seabra, the new board is the first to begin its duties under terms of the new ANACOM statutes that took effect last 6 January. It was appointed by resolution of the Council of Ministers approved on 4 July; the Minister of Economy today presided at the ceremony in which the board members took office.

Álvaro Dâmasohttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=25108 has solid experience in the area of market regulation. He is 53 years old, with a degree in law, and has also occupied numerous positions, among them chairman of the board of administration of the Banco Comercial dos Açores, of the Securities Market Commission, and of the Lisbon and Oporto Stock Exchange.

José Saraiva Mendeshttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=25124 studied telecommunications and electro-technical engineering. His more recent positions include that of managing director of GDP- Gás de Portugal, Transgás, and the holding GALP Energia .

Maria do Carmo Seabrahttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=25117 is an economist and university professor who currently lectures at the Faculty of Economy of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The outgoing board of administration was headed by Luís Nazaré; the other two members were João Confraria and Marques de Miranda. It was in office from July 1998 through June 2002 and prepared the launch of the sector's liberalisation as well as important matters such as the assignment of licences for the third mobile generation and the terrestrial digital television platform.
