ECC TG4 - Bologna

The Italian city of Bologna hosted last 10-13 December the 6th meeting of ECC TG4, with the main goal of finalising the supplementary report for the second report (Report B) of the three that this group will have to prepare in response to the EC mandate and which concern various aspects of the possible digital dividend.

This supplementary report focuses on technical options for use of the harmonised sub-band that Report B identified as being the 806-862 MHz band (channels 62 to 69), for fixed/mobile applications including uplinks. It arose from the need for detailed complementary studies on compatibility between the DVB-T (digital terrestrial television) standard and DVB-H (digital television for reception in mobile terminals) and the fixed/mobile applications, which will operate in adjacent bands. The report was completed on the first two days of the meeting so it could be sent in time for the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) meeting that approved the document.

The meeting's final days saw the beginning of work to draw up the third report (Report C), which will assess the possibility of using non-harmonised spectrum between DVB-T awards and assignments - the so-called white spots - by new/future applications or services.
