Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações - ANACOM Board of Directors assumes power today


The new Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) administrators were sworn in today in Lisbon by the Minister of the Economy. Álvaro Dâmaso, José Saraiva Mendes and Maria do Carmo Seabra are the three members of the Board of Directors and their mandate is for five yeas.

Álvaro Dâmaso, Chairman of the ANACOM Board of Directors, studied Law at Lisbon University, was Chairman of the Lisbon and Oporto Stock Exchange, the Securities Market Commission and the Commercial Bank of the Azores. He was also a Member of the Republican Assembly and the Regional Government of the Azores.

José Saraiva Mendes, Member of the ANACOM Board of Directors, graduated in Electro-technical Engineering/Communications at the Instituto Superior Técnico and has divided his professional career between the telecommunications, postal services and energy sectors. He was Chairman of the Portuguese Association for Communications Development (APDC), GDP Distribuição, Portugal Telecom Internacional and Alcatel, and was an administrator for CTT/TLP and Marconi.

Maria do Carmo Seabra, Member of the ANACOM Board of Directors, graduated in Economics at the Portuguese Catholic University and took a doctorate in Economics at the New Lisbon University. She has a wide academic curriculum, has taken part in a number of national and international conferences on telecommunications and has collaborated in the preparation of research work in the same area.

The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) is the regulatory organ for communications in Portugal and its activities can be divided into two distinct areas: telecommunications and the postal services.
