Based on the recent study prepared by ANACOM, it is already possible to know the evolution of prices of the priority and non priority services provided by CTT - Correios de Portugal, S.A., between 1989 and 2002.
The main objective of this work was to evaluate the prices practised for the above-mentioned postal services vectors as well as to compare the values of the national and international base tariffs (tariffs of the standardised letters up to 20 grams) practised in the member countries of the European Union (EU), taking into account the different regulations to which these prices are subject to.
The results of this study lead us to conclude that the basket of prices for priority and non priority mail decreased in overall terms, being however necessary to go on with cost-oriented prices. In comparative terms, Portugal still has average prices lower than the average of prices practised in the EU, both in terms of priority mail and non priority mail.
