Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) Meetings

The approval of the Maputo Declaration, which agrees with the holding of an international sector seminar, was one of the main steps taken at the V Ministerial and Postal and Telecommunications Administrations of CPLP meeting held in the capital of Mozambique on April 26 and 27.

The said seminar will probably be held in Luanda during the first six months of this year. The main aim of the seminar will be to identify the cooperation needs in terms of communications.
The Mozambique Prime Minister, the Telecommunications Minister and the CPLP Executive Secretary were all present at the opening of the Summit meeting. The major points of discussion at this meeting were the postal reform in CPLP countries, taking into account the world liberalisation and the universalisation of telecommunication services. The evolution of the sector in the various countries present at the Summit was also the object of analysis by the respective ministerial representatives.

A technical meeting of the administrations and regulatory authorities was held prior to the Summit. Several aspects were debated, such as universal service access, the evolution of the postal service regulatory framework, the licensing of services and technical cooperation.
The VI Ministerial and Administration of CPLP Meeting was set for April 2002, in São Tomé e Príncipe.

At the same time, Maputo also received the Association of Post and Telecommunications Operators from the Portuguese-speaking Countries and Territories (AICEP). The theme of the IX Forum of this Association, 'Communications: Globalisation and Identity', provided the motto for the four thematic panels (digital society, digital economy, telecommunications and post) discussed at this conference which was held on April 24 to 27

The AICEP/ Communications Foundation award was presented and a philately exhibition under the theme 'Meeting of Cultures' was inaugurated. Just as the CPLP, the General Meeting of the Association, held at the same time, decided to schedule the next forum in April 2002, in São Tomé e Príncipe
