Study Group - SG 1 (Spectrum Management) - WP 1A - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 18-24 June a meeting of working party 1A (WP 1A) on Spectrum Engineering Techniques, the first since the 2007 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC 07). The main topics of this meeting were power line telecommunications (PLT), WRC matters and modification of the Recommendations and revision of the Questions.

The report on the impact of PLT systems on various radiocommunication services operating in the LF, MF, HF and VHF bands below 80 MHz was updated based on the contributions received. A document was also prepared with the relevant material to include in the Recommendation that is being produced on PLT systems. The PLT systems correspondence group will continue to function.

Also approved was the working plan for item 1.22 of the 2011 WRC (WRC 11) agenda, on short range devices (SRD), and a correspondence group was set up to handle this issue. Questions that are the responsibility of WP 1A were examined and it was proposed that some be transferred by Study Group 1 (SG 1), which deals with spectrum management issues.

Revisions of the following Recommendations were also proposed:

  • ITU-R SM.337-5, ''Frequency and Distance Separations'';

  • ITU-R SM.1138-1, ''Determination of Necessary Bandwidth Including Examples for their Calculation and Associated Examples for the Designation of Emission'';

  • ITU-R SM.329-10, ''Unwanted Emissions in the Spurious Domain'';

  • ITU-R SM.1541-2, ''Unwanted Emissions in the Out-of-Band Domain''.

Note that that the main aims of the next WP 1A meeting were determined, as follows:

  • To conduct studies concerning the WRC 11 agenda items assigned to WP 1A;

  • To conduct studies about the impact of PLT systems on radiocommunication services and to update the PLT Recommendation;

  • To conduct studies with a view to revising Recommendations ITU-R SM.329-10 and ITU-R SM.1541-2.
