Portugal has been elected to the Postal Operations Council (POC) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), following the vote held at the plenary session of the XXIV UPU Congress on 6 August.
Portugal's re-election is the first step towards the continued active participation in the work of the Union over the next 4 year cycle, particularly those relating to operational matters, contributing to the development of the UPU.
Although unsuccessful in seeking re-election to the Council of Administration (CA), Portugal will continue to participate in the activities of this Council, in the role of observer, contributing to the supervision of the UPU's regulatory, administrative and legislative activities.
The UPU Congress is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, until August 12.
