The management of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications administrations (CEPT) will be exercised by Portugal from today, October 1st, with the support of United Kingdom and Switzerland - countries that integrate Troika (present, past and future presidencies) - which ensures the continuity of the works of this organisation.
By the occasion of the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a meeting will be held today in Marrakech between CEPT representatives, upon invitation of the Portuguese Presidency, and representatives from other regional organisations with equivalent competences: Asia-Pacific Telecommunityhttp://www.aptsec.org/ (APT), African Telecommunications Unionhttp://www.atu-uat.org/ (ATU), CITELhttp://www.citel.oas.org/citel_i.asp (Inter-American Telecommunications Commission), Arab Telecommunication Council of Ministers (ATCM), e Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC).
This meeting follows the decision taken at the CEPT Assembly held in Cardiff (10 and 11 September 2002) where it was agreed to that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CEPT and those regional organisations could be used in a broader sense. MoU with RCC - which groups Russia and 11 former Soviet Republics from East Europe and Central Asia - will be signed during the ceremony that precedes the inter-regional meeting of today, in accordance with joint press releasehttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=66370 meanwhile disclosed.
In this context, the current CEPT President, Saraiva Mendes, member of the board of ANACOM, is empowered to agree with the representatives from those organisations the realisation of periodical (biannual) meetings. In order to rationalise costs and time, these meetings should coincide with major ITU events.
During today's meeting, the involved organisations should also confirm the possibility of publishing the MoUs signed with CEPT in the websitehttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=64727 of this organisation.
