Portuguese leads ITSO


Portugal's José Manuel Toscano is the new Director General of ITSO - International Telecommunications Satellite Organization, receiving 64 votes compared to the 31 received by Flavien Bachadi of Benin, current Regional Vice President of INTELSAT. The election was held today as part of the 32nd Assembly of Parties, which is being held in Estoril until 10 October.

The new leader takes over from Ahmed Toumi, who has held the post over the past seven years and whose mandate was non-renewable.

José Manuel Toscano, who was Director of External Relations of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO), has played an active part in the telecommunications sector for over 25 years, both nationally and internationally, with positions at ANACOM, the European Commission, in companies, university and in various regional and international regulatory bodies within the European Union, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT), among others.
