Meeting of the project team Numbering, Names and Addressing (WG NNA) of the Electronic Communications Committee - Ljubljana

Ljubljana hosted last 7-8 October the 12th meeting of the ECC working group on numbering, names and addressing (WG NNA).

WG NNA is a working group whose participants are mainly regulators from the various countries of the enlarged Europe. It covers numbering issues with a view, among others, to exchanging information, positions and decisions on aspects linked to numbering, particularly the allocation and management of those resources and, recently, measures associated to consumer defence. The group's activity also includes drawing up recommendations, reports and decisions, approved by the ECC, on issues of common interest for Europe in this area.

The issues covered at this meeting included the following:

  • Final adoption of Recommendation (08)03 ''Services Using Harmonised European Short Codes in the National Numbering Range Beginning with ''116'''', which proposes a set of measures which in certain circumstances make it feasible to use ''sponsorships'' as a way to support the cost of calls to ''116xxx'' numbers. These numbers are meant to provide harmonised social services as defined in Decision 2007/116/EC of 15 February;

  • Final adoption of ECC report 126 on ''Fixed-Mobile Convergence with Survey of Numbering Related Issues'', which covers the topic of fixed-mobile convergence, focusing on numbering-related aspects. It presents a number of conclusions and recommendations associated to this matter;

  • Creation of a project team on Strategic Numbering Issues, which will examine the strategic impact associated to numbering engendered by the growth of networks, services and applications (e.g. machine to machine).
