Europeana prototype in November 2008

The prototype of the Europeana website will be launched in November, providing a single point of online access to around 2 million digital documents, including selected manuscripts, books, newspapers, periodicals, photos, films, paintings and sound recordings, from the digital collections and available in museums, libraries, archives and audiovisual collections from across Europe.

Europeana is a thematic network founded by the European Commission under the eContentplus programme, as part of i2010 (Digital Libraries Initiative). It has the participation of 90 representatives led by the national library of the Netherlands and is being overseen by the European Digital Library Foundation. The project has the cooperation of the European Library, which is a service of the Conference of European National Librarians. It is represented in Portugal by the National Library, which has participated in TEL - The European Library since its inception and is a partner in European projects connected to TELPlus and EDNet.
