Rights of use in the 2.6 GHz band - Public consultation

By determination of 11 December 2008, ANACOM approved the public consultation paper on rights of use in the frequency band 2500-2690 MHz (also known as the 2.6 GHz band).

In fact, in the scope of the public consultation carried out in 2007 on the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP), this Authority deemed that the conditions for assessing the market on this band, which has been the focus of several studies within international fora, have been met.

This public consultation, which takes into consideration national commitments in the Community framework, aims to weight the market interest, in Portugal, in the provision of the 2.6 GHz band for the operation of publicly available electronic communications services. To that effect, a set of issues is raised to sound out the market in several fields, such as the scope of use, the technical conditions of operation and the spectrum allocation model.

The opinion of the different participants (manufacturers, operators, users and others) shall be an important contribution towards a decision on the future framework for allocation and use of the frequency band 2500-2690 MHz.
