1st URSI Portugal Career Prize awarded to Dr. Carlos Salema


The Portuguese Committee of URSI has started to award an annual prize in recognition of a career of excellence of a Portuguese Scientist who has contributed to the advancement of the field of radio science in Portugal in recent years. This year the prize will be awarded to Dr. Carlos Salema.

Dr. Carlos Salema was one of the names nominated by the Chairs of the National Scientific Committees, and was unanimously accepted by the Portuguese Committee of URSI, for his contributions in the area of radio, from a scientific and academic point of view and due to his impact on Portuguese society.

This year the prize will be awarded during the 7th Telecommunications Conference - Conftele, to be held in Sta. Maria da Feira from 3 to 5 May. The ceremony will take place on Monday, 4 May, a day which will see the presentation of the articles on radio-electricity, evaluated by Conftele. The prize will be handed out by the Chairman of ANACOM, José Amado da Silva.

URSI - International Union of Radio Science is a nongovernmental and non-profit organisation, under the auspices of the International Council of Science, which has the aim of stimulating and co-ordinating, on an international basis, studies, research, applications, scientific exchange, and communication in the fields of radio science. The members of URSI are the national committees of different countries, and in the Portuguese case, the organization of the work of the Portuguese Committee falls to ANACOM.

The Portuguese Committee of URSI is associated this year with the organisation of CONFTELE, with the sessions on the radio-electricity held under its aegis.
