RSPG launches public consultations

The 19th meeting of the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) of the European Commission has taken place in Brussels (Belgium). Of particular note at the meeting, held on 13 May 2009, was the adoption of the following documents: a draft opinion and a position paper on the digital dividend; a position paper on wireless broadband, and a proposal for a two part opinion on a coordinated position for the European Union (EU) on the spectrum, for presentation at the World Radiocommunication Conference 2011 (WRC-11).

The draft opinion on the digital dividend is undergoing public consultation until June 30, with the aim of finalizing the RSPG opinion by the autumn of 2009. The draft opinion on the coordinated position of the EU to be presented at WRC-11 (parts 1 and 2) will be in public consultation until 15 July 2009.

At this 19th meeting, the RSPG also adopted a draft report, carried out jointly with the European Regulators Group (ERG) on the competition issues raised by more flexible spectrum management - this document will be made public after it has been approved at the next the ERG session, scheduled to take place on 28 and 29 May in Prague. Meanwhile the RSPG discussed a draft report on the allocation of the spectrum and methods for determining its price, as well as the preparation of a report on cognitive radio technologies.

The next RSPG meeting is scheduled for 12 November 2009.
