Message-based valued added services - Adaptation of the NNP

By determination of 3 June 2009, ANACOM approved a final decision on the adaptation of the National Numbering Plan (NNP) to the amendment made to Decree-Law no. 177/99, of 21 May, by Decree-Law no. 63/2009, of 10 March, which creates new rules for message-based valued added services. This amendment involves the creation of codes, as well as the definition of conditions for the allocation and use of numbers accommodated in these codes.

Approval was also granted to the report of the consultation on the corresponding draft decision, launched further to determination of 1 April 2009, which was assessed by the following bodies: Portugal Telecom Group (on behalf of Portugal Telecom SGPS, PT Comunicações, PT PRIME and TMN); NETSIZE Group; NVIAsms Portugal; Onitelecom; Send It; SONAECOM; Vodafone Portugal, ZON - TV Cabo Portugal and DECO.

In order to meet concerns generally expressed by providers, ANACOM decided that it should alter the draft decision, reducing the total and unique number length from 6 to 5 digits, for at least a one-year period. Service identification codes were also altered from 3 to 2 digits, to make this alteration feasible.
