Portuguese Committee of URSI launches research prize

The Portuguese Committee of URSI is going to award an annual ''URSI Portugal Research Prize'' to reward the best research work in the fields of radio science. The net value of the prize to be awarded to the best work amounts to five thousand euros.

The purpose of this prize is to stimulate creativity and rigour in the work of scientific research in Portugal and is due to be awarded during the annual congress of the Portuguese Committee of URSI, to be held in November.

The prize will be awarded annually to researchers and authors of the best works which contain an important contribution to science in areas which include: electromagnetic metrology, radiocommunication systems and signal processing, electronics and photonics, electromagnetic environment and interference.

The prize joins another already established by the Portuguese Committee of URSI, the career prize to reward the excellence of a Portuguese scientist who has contributed to the advancement of the field of radio science in Portugal in recent years. This year the prize was awarded to Professor Carlos Salema.

URSI - International Union of Radio Science is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation under the International Council for Science, responsible for stimulating and co-ordinating, on an international basis, studies, research, applications, scientific exchange, and communication in the fields of radio science. The members of URSI are the national committees of different countries, and in the Portuguese case, it falls to ANACOM to organise the works of the Portuguese Committee.
