World Post Day 2009

To mark World Post Day 2009, the Director General of the Universal Postal Union opted for the theme ''A postal service committed to green growth''. As in previous years, the national commemorative ceremony will be held on 9 October at FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Foundation for Communications) and will be attended by the Chairman of ANACOM and representatives from the Foundation's other founders - CTT - Correios de Portugal and Portugal Telecom.

As part of the event, a presentation will be made on ''The evolution of regulatory models'' by Professor João Confraria as part of the celebration of ANACOM's 20th anniversary.

There will also be three exhibitions opened: ''Inbound /Outbound - By Post'', photographs by Anabela Loureiro; ''Letters to Father Christmas'', exhibited by CTT; and Carlos Barroco's ''In Transit - Mail Art''.

The ceremony will also involve the award of the prizes for the 2009 letter-writing competition and the launch of the 2010 competition, organised globally by the UPU and promoted in Portugal by ANACOM and CTT - Correios de Portugal, both members of this specialist United Nations organisation. The theme chosen for the 2010 competition is ''Write a letter to someone to explain why it is important to talk about AIDS and to protect yourself against the disease''.
