Spectru - 20 Years of ANACOM special edition

ANACOM (ICP - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações) has issued a special edition of its newsletter, Spectru, to mark the Authority’s twentieth anniversary, falling on 6 November, the date on which the first Management Board of the then Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) took up office.

This special edition covers ANACOM’s activity over the 20 years of its existence, corresponding to two decades of profound transformation in the electronic communications and postal services sectors, and also reflects on the challenges facing the regulator in the future.  It also includes an interview with the chairman of ANACOM’s Management Board as well as the testimony of its predecessors, and sets out the government vision (MOTPC) and the view of APDC - Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento das Comunicações (Portuguese Association for the Development of Communications), the organisation, which, for 25 years, has brought together different stakeholders in the market.  At the same time, an analysis is made of each of the sectors, showing how the communication landscape in Portugal has evolved over the last 20 years.

The Spectru 20 Years newsletter is one of a series of initiatives celebrating the 20th anniversary of ANACOM, which also includes the international Conference “20 Years Later: Why Regulate?” which took place in Lisbon on 30 September 2009.
