The Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) has released data on internet access and usage in the European Union 27 Member States (EU27). These data reveal in particular that the number of households with broadband connections has doubled since 2006, rising from 30 percent to 61 percent by the end of the first quarter of 2010 (1Q2010).

The statistical data published (''Internet usage in 2010 - Households and Individuals'') indicate that, in Portugal, the number of households with Internet access rose from 35 percent in 2006 to 54 percent in 2010, and those that had a broadband connection doubled from 24 per cent in 2006 to 50 percent in 2010. Eurostat also indicates that, by type of household, Internet access existed in 80 percent of households with children, dropping to 44 percent in those without children.

These data published by Eurostat integrate the results of a survey on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) covering households and individuals in the EU27 Member States, Norway, Croatia and Turkey.
