ANACOM debates Universal Service at conference on 18th
ANACOM - Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações is holding its second Conference on 18 September in the large auditorium of Culturgest. The Conference will address the theme of ''Universal Service''.
The issues to be debated at the conference include the provision of the universal service of electronic communications in competition and the impact that next generation networks will have on this provision, with further discussion focusing on the universal postal service in a liberalised environment and user protection and guarantees.
The event will bring together prestigious national and international figures from the sector, with the confirmed presence of representatives from national regulatory authorities and sectoral associations, corporate leaders and members of relevant international organisations as well as delegates from the European Union.
The opening session will be attended by ANACOM's chairman, José Amado da Silva and the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, Mário Lino.

Electronic Communications Universal Service: The minimum set of services, defined in the Electronic Communications Law (Law no. 5/2004 of 10 February), of a specified quality, which is available to all users regardless of their geographical location and, in the light of national conditions, at an affordable price.
Universal Postal Service: Offer of postal services of a specific quality, permanently available, provided throughout national territory at prices accessible to all users, aiming to satisfy the communication needs of the population and those of economic and social activities.
US - Universal Service: In portuguese, Serviço Universal (SU). In general terms, universal service (US) is taken as meaning the minimum set of services of a specified quality which is available to all users at an affordable price.
