Established in 2009, the European Eastern Partnership (EAP) is a partnership between the European Union (EU) and countries in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus. In line with the EU's cooperation with other geographical areas (e.g. the Mediterranean), the EAP comprises an institutionalised forum which aims to improve political and economic relations between the EU and six countries of Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, seeking to share values such as democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights, as well as the principles of the market economy, sustainable development and good governance. The EAP is also intended as a basis for new Association Agreements between the EU and its partners in the region.
At a sector level, the Electronic Communications Regulators Network aims to encourage debate and the exchange of experience and good practice between EU regulators and EAP partners, fostering an approximation towards the European regulatory framework. The first meeting took place in Vienna, in October 2010. ANACOM participated at the highest level and remains an observer member of this informal organization.
