Definitions

Fixed Satellite Service (FSS): radiocommunications service between fixed earth station involving the use of one or more satellites.

Satellite News Gathering (SNG): the use of earth stations work as an assistant in broadcasting with occasional electronic purpose of collecting world news gathering via satellite, and establishes links between the local reporting and studio in frequency bands allocated to the fixed-satellite service.

SNG earth stations are stations usually installed on vehicles using parabolic antennas pointed at geostationary satellites, for the transmission of audio and video signals.

Frequency bands

The frequency bands available in Portugal for FSS/SNG stations are as follows:

11,45 - 11,70 GHz

12,50 - 12,75 GHz

14,00 - 14,50 GHz

Operating frequencies are assigned on a case-by-case basis and for a specific area, according to the ''first come first served'' principle.

Fee table

In accordance with article 13 of Decree-Law no. 151-A/2000https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=976037, of 20 July, in its current wording, the radio temporary licences may be granted for a period not exceeding one hundred eighty days, and may be renewed once and for a period of time. The use of stations and networks subject to radio licensing requires the payment of the applicable fees, the amounts of which are set out in Administrative Rule no. 1473-B/2008https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=975627, of 17 December, in its current wording.

The value of the usage fees to be collected is reached by using the following formula:

  • Applicable annual fee x (no. of days of licence validity / 360 days).

For SNG earth stations, the applicable annual fee is as follows:

Urgency Fee: If the application for temporary licensing is not submitted to ANACOM up to ten days prior to the date on which it is proposed the radio licence should come into force, the applicable fee will be increased by 50% of its value, with a minimum of 75 euros.

Minimum Fee: The value of 50 euros is the minimum value of spectrum fee applicable to stations or networks of each radiocommunications service/application to be used for temporary events.
