WG FM PT47/WG SE PT24 joint meeting - Maisons-Alfort

The French city of Maisons-Alfort hosted last 7 May a joint meeting of project team (PT) 47 of the Frequency Management working group (WG FM) and of PT 24 of the Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE), chaired by Emmanuel Faussurier and Marc Le Devendec.

Twelve comments were received regarding CEPT Report 37 (approved for public consultation up to 5 May at the 25th ECC meeting), with Portugal expressing its opinion in the wake of the positions taken at previous meetings. A short summary of the received comments shows that the Strategic Automotive Radar Frequency Allocation Group (SARA), Germany, EUMETSAT, the European Space Agency (ESA) and EUMETNET are against a possible extension of the regulatory solution for short range radar (SRR) in 24 GHz, while most CEPT administrations defend that possibility.

The proposed CEPT Report 37, as revised at this meeting, was submitted to the 69th WG FM meeting for consideration and approval. It must nevertheless be stressed that there is still no consensus on the solution to adopt, either the extension of 24 GHz or to allow SRR in 26 GHz.

Note that PT47 was set up at the 65th WG FM meeting (held on 9-13 February 2009 in Cascais, Portugal) to cover issues associated to UWB (ultra wide band) technology. This project team is in charge of responding to the second European Commission (EC) mandate on SRR. SE24 has worked with FM47, undertaking the necessary compatibility studies.
