EMERG Meetings


The Group of Euro-Mediterranean Regulators (EMERG) held a high-level conference on “Independent Regulatory Authorities”, on 19 and 20 October 2010, in Beirut, Lebanon, jointly organised by the NATPE-3 (New Approaches to Telecommunications Policy), a project of the European Commission which aiming at cooperation and at promoting the electronic communications sector in the countries of the Mediterranean basin, and the newly created Lebanese sector regulator TRA.

This event established an opportunity not only to meet the regulatory developments in Lebanon, with the new regulator, as well as in Syria and in Palestine, which are working towards the same goal, but also to allow assessment of the independence implications of the regulators authorities sector, and to discuss the merits of a closer Euro-Mediterranean partnership at this level.

A Workshop was held on 22 and 23 September 201 at Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, on new generation networks (New Generation Networks and their impact on markets and regulation), in the same context of EMERG´s, organized jointly by ANACOM and by NATP-3. This meeting aimed at promoting the establishment of independent regulatory Authorities, as well as a competitive environment of the electronic communications market, in a group of nine Countries of North Africa and the Middle East (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia).
