Study Group 2 meeting - Geneva


Geneva hosted last 1-10 June a meeting of Study Group 2 of the ITU Telecommunications Standardisation Sector (ITU-T).

The following subjects were dealt with at the meeting:

  • Identification of networks with MNC for private use (e.g. machine-to-machine communications (M2M));

  • Number portability - identification of centralised database scenarios;

  • Improper numbering use (Misuse);

  • Harmonisation of message identifiers and service categories (e.g. emergency warnings using the cell broadcast function).

The following recommendations were also approved:

  • Appendix (Alphabetical list of terms) to recommendation E.101 (Definitions of terms used for identifiers (names, numbers, addresses and other identifiers) for public; telecommunication services and networks in the E-series Recommendations);

  • Amendment to chapter 8 of Annex A of recommendation E.164 (The international public telecommunication numbering plan);

  • Amendment to Annex E of recommendation E.212 (The international identification plan for public networks and subscriptions).

The next meeting of this study group is scheduled for March 2012 and will be the last in the 2008-2012 study period.
