ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-2012)

/ Updated on 12.12.2012

The next World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly (WTSA-2012) is taking place from 20 to 29 November 2012, in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).

Organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - a specialist agency of the United Nations for telecommunications and the information society - this event is held every 4 years; its main objective is to define the general policy and procedures of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).

In accordance with Article 18 of the ITU Constitution and Article 13 of the Convention, the WTSA is also charged with reviewing Sector working methods including approval processes, the work programme and the structure of Study Groups, in addition to appointing the chairmen and vice chairmen to preside over the different bodies. It is in this context that ANACOM approved a set of common European positions which, in its view, constitute a valuable contribution to the ITU's work and, at the same time, enhance the cohesion of the European positions to be advanced at the Assembly.

In line with the assemblies of 2004 and 2008, WTSA-2012 will be preceded by a Global Standards Symposium (GSS), also to be held in Dubai, on 19 November.
