Meeting of ECC WG NaN - Palanga

The seventh meeting of the ECC working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) was held last 16-17 October in Palanga, Lithuania. Noteworthy results of the meeting include the approval for public consultation of the following documents:

  • Draft Report no. 212 - ''Evolution in the use of E.212 Mobile Network Codes'', which analyses and puts forward different options to consider to facilitate the allocation and/or use of mobile network code as a way to boost competition and the provision of innovative services such as machine-to-machine (M2M), while making sure that the allocation does not lead to exhaustion of those scarce resources;

  • Draft Report no. 213 - ''Impact of Number Portability between Fixed and Mobile Services'', which analyses various aspects and options to consider and their impacts when number portability exists between fixed and mobile telephone service;

  • Draft Recommendation (14)03 - ''Charging Principles for National and International Freephone Services'', which updates the previous Recommendation ECTRA/REC/(00)01 approved in 2000. Roaming calls to freephone services were included, upholding the principle that the price of calls to those services is by definition free for the caller.

The public consultations may be consulted on the ECO website; eventual contributions can be submitted in accordance with the conditions described there.

Plans call for the next meeting (8-9 April) to be held in Lisbon.
