Consultation on rules governing the use of numbers for customer support services

By determination of 14 March 2014, ANACOM has approved a draft decision on the rules governing the shared use of 16xy numbers from the PNN - Plano Nacional de Numeração (National Numbering Plan) for customer support services.

It was held that there was no impediment preventing two or more companies belonging to the same group from sharing use of a single number for customer support services, provided each company meets the conditions governing allocation of this numbering resource and if that is their wish.

Given the growing importance of bundled offers, ICP-ANACOM considers that the customer support service may include information on other electronic communications services comprising the same telephone service bundle.

Since this entails a change to the conditions governing the use of 16xy numbers, it makes sense to adopt a set of rules that can be applied to all cases of shared use for access to customer support services.

This draft decision is subject to the prior hearing and public consultation procedures, with a period of 30 working days provided under both procedures for comment. Responses to the consultation should be submitted no later than 2 May 2014, by email to consulta-regras-partilha16xy@anacom.ptmailto:consulta-regras-partilha16xy@anacom.pt1. Any transmitted indication of information confidentiality must comply, under both procedures, with the requirements set out in paragraph 3 of article 108 of Lei das Comunicações Eletrónicas (Electronic Communications Law - Law no. 5/2004 of 10 February, as republished by Law no. 51/2011 of 13 September) and in ANACOM determination of 17 November 2011.

Once the consultation process has been concluded, the contributions received will be made public. Therefore, for the purposes of publication on this website, interested parties should also submit a non-confidential version of their responses excluding any items considered confidential.
