Geneva hosted last 16-18 February the 21st meeting of the Telecommunications Development Advisory Group (TDAG) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
A highlight was the presentation of the following reports on activities carried out in 2015:
- review of implementation of the 2015 operational and strategy plan of the ITU Telecommunications Development Sector (ITU-D), including regional initiatives;
- presentation of the ITU-D operational plan for 2017-2020;
- ITU-D's contributions for implementation of the action plan of the World Summit on the Information Society - general review carried out in the United Nations General Assembly concerning the sustainable development goals. It was emphasised that preparations for the next ITU World Telecommunications Development Assembly (last quarter of next year in Argentina) have already begun.
The next TDAG meeting is scheduled to take place in May 2017. Several preparatory meetings and regional development forums will be held this year, especially the Global Symposium for Regulators, to be held this coming 11-14 May in Egypt.
