European Commission launches consultation on Next Generation Internet

On 10 November 2016, the European Commission (EC) launched a public consultation on Next Generation Internet, which runs until 9 January 2017.

"I live in the Internet. I grow with the Internet. I don't see the Internet. I am more independent with the Internet." These are some of the possible scenarios that may come to mind when envisaging the internet in 2030.

To obtain the maximum number of contributions and to give everyone an opportunity to share their opinions and ideas about the Internet in 2030, the European Commission is launching a consultation with questions related to specific technology areas that might become important for the Internet of the future; these include decentralised architectures, immersive environments and networking solutions beyond IP.

To engage with a broad audience, opinions will be compiled with the support of an online platform. Using this platform, participants can access and comment on background documents and learn about relevant events. Further discussions on the "hot" topics raised during the consultation will also be posted on the platform.

A report on the results of the consultation will be published in January 2017.
