The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released data on broadband, referring to June 2016, which shows the mobile broadband penetration rate in the OECD area1 rising to 95%.
The data also reveals that the digital subscriber line remains the leading technology, although its gradual replacement by fibre continues - fibre already makes up 20.1% of subscriptions.
With regard to machine-to-machine communication (M2M), the information reveals that subscriptions associated with these communications increased by almost 20% last year in countries for which data is available.
Portugal reports a penetration rate for broadband of 31.5% (above the OECD average - 29.8%), although the Portuguese rate for mobile broadband (54.8%) lags the OECD average.
Optical fibre penetration in Portugal is the seventh highest among OECD countries while penetration of accesses supported over cable television networks is the sixth highest.
