WG FM PT44 meeting - Maisons-Alfort

The 41st meeting of WG FM’s project team 44 (PT44) on satellite communications was held last 12-13 January in Maisons-Alfort, France. The gathering was chaired by France and attended by 16 participants, encompassing a total of eight administrations, as well as several representatives from industry, specifically AB5 Consulting, DJCSL, Eutelsat, Inmarsat, Intelsat and SES, and from the ECO.

Various issues were considered, of which the following agenda points stand out:

  • Terrestrial ground stations in motion operating in the Ku band with geostationary satellites;
  • Fixed ground stations operating in the Ku band with non-geostationary satellites systems.

Regarding the first point, it was agreed that a new working item would be proposed to WG FM with a view to producing a new ECC decision on harmonised use and individual licence exemption of terrestrial ground stations in motion operating in the Ku band with geostationary satellites, at the same time requesting that compatibility studies be carried out by SE40. A contribution for WG FM to send to WG SE was also produced in that context.

Regarding the second point, it was agreed to present to WG FM the draft of the new ECC decision on harmonised use and individual licence exemption of fixed ground stations operating in the Ku band with non-geostationary satellite systems, requesting that WG FM submit it to public consultation if there is sufficient support from the administrations.

On the other hand, as no comments were received during the public consultations on the revisions of Decisions ECC/DEC/(05)09 and ECC/DEC/(06)10, they will presumably be adopted by the ECC.

The next (42nd) meeting of PT44 should be held in Copenhagen on 19-21 April 2017.
