52nd CERP plenary meeting - June 2017

The 52nd CERP plenary meeting was held in Madrid last 1-2 June. Besides CERP members, representatives of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Bureau, the European Commission (EC) and PostEurop (European postal operators association) participated as observers.

The CERP plenary session took note of the reports from its working groups (WGs), WG UPU and WG Policy, and of the report from the CERP/PostEurop Contact Committee meeting.

WG UPU’s work on the future of CERP stand out, specifically two questionnaires sent to the members; the second one put forward several proposals about which the meeting participants were asked to indicate their positions.

The chairs and vice-chairs of CERP and respective WGs were elected. In the absence of candidates to head the communication task force, its inherent functions were transferred to the Steering Committee.

The EC gave a presentation on the respective draft regulation on cross-border parcel delivery services. The UPU in turn recalled results achieved at the 2016 Istanbul Congress, while the newly-elected chair of WG UPU reported on latest developments concerning reform of the Union.

The usual forum also took place, moderated by the Belgian representative. Among other issues, the debate focused on main results of the Istanbul Congress.

The date and place of the next plenary meeting were not set.
