Postal network and offer of services of CTT - 1st quarter of 2017

The report is now available1 on the postal network and offer of services of CTT - Correios de Portugal (CTT), concessionaire of the universal postal service.

This report, with data to the first quarter of 2017 (1Q2017), highlights that, at the end of this period, there were 2,353 operational postal establishments, including 612 fixed post offices, 3 mobile post offices and 1,738 postal agencies.

The total number of postal establishments has remained stable since the end of fourth quarter 2014, in line with the objectives of the postal network density and minimum offers of services, as under ANACOM decision of 28 August 2014https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=13343412.  These objectives implicitly establish that CTT is required to keep a minimum of 2,296 postal establishments operating from fourth quarter 2014 (inclusive) until the end of September 20173.

Based solely on information reported by CTT, the operator has achieved the objectives of postal network density and minimum offers of services in 1Q2017.

At an international level, the situation in Portugal, in terms of coverage ratios, compares slightly unfavourably to the EU average (excluding Portugal), while the population density index in Portugal is in line with the EU average. The percentage of postal establishments managed by third parties is higher in Portugal than the EU average. This is based on data available from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on the network of fixed postal establishments of universal service providers in the Member States of the European Union (data referring to 2015),
