World Post Day 2017

World Post Day is celebrated on 9 October, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. The aim of the event is to raise awareness among the general public and companies about the day-to-day role of the postal sector and its contribution to social and economic development.

In Portugal, World Post Day 2017 will be marked by a commemorative ceremony, organised by FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation) on its premises. The event will be attended by João Cadete de Matos, Chair of the Board of Directors of ANACOM and FPC, Francisco de Lacerda, Chair of the Board of Directors of CTT - Correios de Portugal and Director of FPC, and Luís Andrade, Chair of the Executive Board of FPC.

In this session, the prizes will be handed out for the 2017 "best letter" (A melhor carta 2017) competition, held on the theme "Imagine you are an advisor to the new UN Secretary-General which world issue would you help him tackle first and how would you advise him to solve it?", granted in the 1st age group (9-11 years) to Maria Teixeira, from Porto, and in the 2nd age group (12-15 years) to Bruno Grilo, from Gondomar, whose letter awarded special mention.
