Call for papers


The Portuguese Committee of URSI is holding its 17th congress on 24 November 2023, with the theme “Smart materials for radioscience.”

Best Student Paper Award

ANACOM and URSI Portugal established the Best Student Paper Award to encourage young authors to participate in scientific events and to stimulate national scientific production, promoting the dissemination of research carried out in Portugal.

The Best Student Paper Award is, therefore, a unique and important opportunity for the consolidation of training and the academic path, helping young researchers better prepare for the future challenges that they will face at a professional level.

To apply for this award, applicants should express their intention using the entry form, which should be submitted together with their article. ANACOM reserves the right to require confirmation of the academic status of all entries.

Interested parties are invited to submit original scientific papers in the following areas:

5. Electromagnetic environment and interference.

8. Waves in the plasma.

9. Radio astronomy.

10. Electromagnetics in biology and medicine.

The selected papers will be presented at the congress as a 3 to 5-minute pitch and then published on ANACOM´s website.

Rules governing submission of papers

Entries must be submitted no later than 17 November 2023, by email sent to ursi.por@anacom.ptmailto:ursi.por@anacom.pt, and should have 2 to 4 complete pages in PDF format with two columns, using the IEEE template http://www.ieee.org/publications_standards/publications/authors/authors_journals.html.

The first author will be notified as to the acceptance of the work for oral presentation.

The official language of the Congress is Portuguese, although communications in English are also accepted.

ANACOM-URSI Portugal Prize

The Portuguese Committee of URSI, sponsored by ANACOM, will also award the “ANACOM-URSI Portugal Prize”, distinguishing the best research work in the areas pursued by URSI. The purpose of this prize is to stimulate creativity and rigour in scientific research work in Portugal, distinguishing the best research work in the area of radio science.

Entries must be submitted no later than 17 November 2023, by email sent to ursi.por@anacom.ptmailto:ursi.por@anacom.pt. The Prize Regulations are available on the page of the 17th congress of the Portuguese Committee of URSI.

“Best research project” award

The award for “Best research project” was established by ANACOM and URSI Portugal in 2022, to encourage young students and researchers to participate in scientific events and develop academic and research work.

The prize will be awarded to the best project presented and defended by a student who is the first author of the work and presents it at a session of the Congress of the Portuguese Committee of URSI (format to be defined). Entries for this prize must be submitted by the author together with the project’s abstract. ANACOM may require confirmation of the author’s academic status.

Entries may be submitted in Portuguese or English, by sending an abstract (no more than 400 words) with the following items: keywords (up to five), project title, name(s) of the author(s), name of academic institution or research unit, name of supervisor(s), address, telephone number and e-mail address. The deadline for submission of entries is 17 November 2023. Entries may be sent, up until this deadline, to ursi.por@anacom.ptmailto:ursi.por@anacom.pt.
