Policy Working Group (NATO PWG) - March 2004

/ Updated on 31.07.2006

The Policy Working Group (PWG) of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) met on 10-11 March at the organisation's headquarters in Brusssels.

This was NATO PWG's last meeting to be attended by invited representatives of the so-called accession countries, as they become full right members of the organisation in April 2004.

The president reported on results of the first meeting of the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG) of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT). The group organises and develops European preparations for Radiocommunications Conferences (WRCs). The creation of four CPG project teams was mentioned.

NATO PWG continued the work of co-ordinating preparation of the military position to defend on the topics under discussion at the next WRC, to be held in 2007.

During debate on item 1.5, France indicated the need to identify a new band for downlink to new aircraft which, besides coming with new requirements such as certification, qualification and gauging of aircraft, transmit to the ground data captured by onboard sensors.

This PWG meeting was attended by 50 representatives of 17 NATO countries, five accession countries, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and the NATO Consultation Command and Control Agency (NC3A).

The next NATO PWG meeting has been scheduled for November.
