CPG - Tenerife

/ Updated on 30.08.2006

The fifth meeting of CPG-07, the CEPT working group in charge of European preparations for the 2007 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-07) was held on 17-20 January in Tenerife, Spain.

Besides revision and approval of the briefs on all the WRC-07 agenda points, containing the principles and technical grounds for preparing the preliminary positions on each topic, it is noteworthy that some European common proposals (ECPs) began to be prepared. Once approved, they will be presented on behalf of CEPT by a European administration, as European contributions to WRC-07.

Some WRC-07 agenda points have already seen significant developments; the briefs presented to the CPG-07 group reflect discussions at the meetings of the respective project teams. However, the debate on some items, such as, for example, item 1.4 (future evolution of IMT-2000 and systems beyond), was very controversial at this meeting, where it was not possible to achieve a position that was entirely consensual at CEPT level. It is hoped that the next meetings of the project teams that report to CPG-07 are able to make progress on these issues.

New co-ordinators were also appointed at these meetings: for item 1.10, Blais Soury Lavergne of France; for item 1.19, Bharat Dudhia of Germany; for item 1.20, Stefan Mattsson of Sweden; and for item 4, Marie Bröstrom, also of Sweden.

The meeting counted 114 participants representing CEPT-recognised administrations and operators, as well as observers from the European Commission, the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO), the European Space Agency (ESA), EUMETSAT, EUROCONTROL, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the Regional Commonwealth Countries (RCC), the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The next CPG meeting has been scheduled for 11-13 July 2006 in Gdansk, Poland.
