ECC WG SE - Vilamoura

/ Updated on 31.07.2006

The 43rd meeting of the Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE) was held on 6-10 February in Vilamoura, Portugal.

Various documents were approved, among them the reports from the study on coexistence of fixed wireless access (FWA) systems in the 3.4 GHz-3.8 GHz band and on cross-border co-ordination between FWA systems in the 3.4 GHz-33.4 GHz band, as well as a Recommendation on the introduction of FWA in the 3.4-3.6 GHz and 3.6 GHz-3.8 GHz bands. Also approved, for public consultation, was the report on the study of UMTS co-existence in the GSM 900 and GSM 1800 bands.

Note also the mandate received from the European Commission to produce the studies needed to identify a harmonised introduction of BWA (broadband wireless access) applications; it will be taken into account in a joint group (JPT) covering planning and spectrum engineering questions.

Lastly, the PT SE7 group (responsible for land mobile service questions), besides the technical analysis it is still carrying out on the use of GSM on board aircraft, has been mandated to examine questions inherent to the introduction of GSM stations on board vessels.
