NATO PWG & NATO FMSC - February 2006

/ Updated on 31.07.2006

The 32nd meeting of the policy working group (PWG) was held on 13-14 February at NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) headquarters in Brussels, chaired by Germany. On 14-15 February the Frequency Management Subcommittee (NATO FMSC) met for the 22nd time, also chaired by Germany.

The PWG continued the work preparing for the next World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC07). Standing out among the discussions are those concerning item 1.6, where there the military component expressed some concern over eventual evolution of the 960-1215 MHz band during the Conference, particularly should a decision be made to allocate this band to new radiocommunications services.

The next NATO PWG meting has been scheduled for 11-12 October 2006.

The FMSC in turn adopted a document - NATO Policy on the Use and Management of Radio Frequency Spectrum (AC/322(SC/3)WP(2005)0003) - with which it aims to establish Alliance doctrine on military access to radio spectrum for strategic planning purposes and to conduct military operations, as well as to divulge at highest level guidelines for the military use and management of that natural resource. The North Atlantic Council will be informed of said document.

The next NATO FMSC meeting has been scheduled for 13 October 2006.
