Study Group - SG 5 (Terrestrial Services) - WP 5B - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 19-28 May the third meeting in the 2008-2011 study cycle of working party 5B (WP 5B) on mobile maritime service, including the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), mobile aeronautic service and radio-determination service of ITU-R study group 5 (SG 5).

Some 165 documents were submitted for consideration by WP 5B, distributed according to the respective issues among three subgroups as follows:

• Subgroup 5B-1 – Radio-determination;
• Subgroup 5B-2 - Aeronautic;
• Subgroup 5B-3 - Maritime.

The following situations are noteworthy among the examined issues:

• Completion of the revision of Recommendations ITU-R M.585-4 on assignment and use of maritime mobile service identity (MMSI) and ITUR-R 493-12 on DSC mathematical requirements for radar antenna systems for use in interference analyses;

• Completion of the revision of Recommendation ITU-R M.1730 on “Characteristics of and Protection Criteria for the Radiolocation Service in the Frequency Band 15.4-17.3”.

• Revision of the new Recommendation on technical and operational functioning characteristics of oceanographic radars in the 3-50 MHz frequency band;
