7th meeting of WG FM PT46 - Brest


The seventh meeting of project team (PT) 46 of the Frequency Management working group (WG FM) was held last 9-11 February in the French city of Brest, chaired by Jaap Steenge of the Netherlands. PT 46 mainly covers issues involving maritime mobile and maritime radio-navigation services. The activity undertaken by this working group is reported to WG FM.

Various issues were considered at this meeting, notably the following:

  • Matters concerning the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), specifically the co-ordination of positions with a view to defending CEPT's position at the next IMO meeting;

  • Continuation of work on the study of administrative procedures concerning personal locator beacons (PLBs), with the goal of proposing possible harmonisation at the level of CEPT administrations;

  • Following issues in the scope of working party 5B (WP 5B) of the International Telecommunication Union's Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) concerning the ITU Publication Service, specifically lists IV and V and their publication deadlines;

  • Presentation of new developments in MOB-VPIRB (VHF position indicating radio beacon) systems;

  • Harmonisation of requirements within CEPT countries for leasing radio-equipped vessels;

  • Start of following updates of the EFIS frequency information system in the maritime context.

Lastly, proposed training requirements were completed for the Short Range Certificate (SRC) and Long Range Certificate (LRC) to be presented to WG FM.
