ANACOM participates in European campaign of market fiscalization

From October 2004 to May 2005, ANACOM participated in a European campaign launched in the scope of the European Union (EU), on the monitoring of the electromagnetic compatibility market (EMC), together with other fifteen Member-States. The campaign focused on the assessment of the technical conformity of several types of energy-saving light bulbs, through laboratory tests performed at ANACOM. Results at national level point to a 23% tax of non technical conformity, from a total of thirteen tested equipments (based on the assessment of a sample of five units of each equipment).

This European campaign aimed at improving the information exchange among EU Member-States, at allowing new Member-States to participate in a monitoring campaign and at increasing the relative importance of the subject EMC for consumers and the industry. This last aspect is of great importance since, at the European level, the tax of technical non-conformity was of 29% – this is, fifty types of equipment tested, from a total of one hundred and seventy four, presented values that exceed the corresponding technical regulations.
