Meeting of the COCOM group on the MSS 2 GHZ selection procedure - Brussels

The COCOM working group on implementation of the regulatory framework for pan-European systems offering mobile satellite service (MSS) in the 2 GHz frequency band held its second meeting last 19 March in Brussels, chaired by Philippe Gérard from the European Commission (EC).

The first part of the meeting was attended by representatives of the systems selected via the European Selection and Authorisation Process (ESAP) and included a presentation given by INMARSAT and SOLARIS on the respective systems’ current state of development. This occurred nearly a year after disclosure of the selection process results, in compliance with Decision 449/2009/EC.

Only EU member States participated in the second part of the gathering, where opinions were exchanged on the current status of authorisation systems either implemented or on the way to being so in the different member States. Note also that this group is responsible for covering issues associated to enforcement and monitoring with respect to implementing provision of this service in the community space.

The next meeting is scheduled for 11 June 2010.
