Meeting of PT43 of WG SE - Copenhagen

The fifth meeting of project team (PT) 43 of the Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE) was held last 7-9 April in Copenhagen. This PT is in charge of determining technical requisites for operating cognitive radio (CR) equipment/systems in spectrum not used by digital terrestrial networks (DTT), and for equipment used in program making and special events (PMSE), in the 470-790 MHz frequency band.

The group considered 25 documents, whose issues are grouped as follows:

  • Generic questions;
  • WSD characteristics - emission levels and calculation methodology;
  • Mitigation techniques to apply to CRs;
  • Protection of other services (ARNS, RAS);
  • Calculation of free spectrum.

PT43 concentrated on drawing up the report and studies needed. It reached consensus on the methodology for determining the detection levels and for determining the maximum CR power levels.

Regarding PMSE, the group was unable to reach a final agreement on the methodology. Note that the PMSE industry also presented an ETSI technical report (Draft ETSI TR 102 799 V1.2.2 (2010-04) - Operation Methods and Principles for Spectrum Access Systems for PMSE Technologies and the Guarantee of a High Sound Production Quality on Selected Frequencies Utilising Cognitive Interference Mitigation Techniques).

Lastly, indication was received from the SEAMCAT Technical Group (STG) that the calculations of overloading threshold and the probability of interference if the interfering emitter operates conditioned to detect co-channel signals (sensing, LBT) have already been implemented in SEAMCAT.

The work will continue by correspondence. Also, the geo-location finding and PMSE groups will be reactivated.
