The common position of the Council on the new directive on audio visual media services was formally approved by the European Parliament on 29 November 2007. This directive aims to modernise the rules governing the European audiovisual industry, adapting the sector's regulation in line with the advances seen in technology and the dynamics of the market. Member States have two years in which to transpose this directive into their national legislation.
