Workshop on European Network of Living Labs

A workshop has been held in Funchal (Madeira) on the European Network of Living Labs, an initiative to set up a network in which innovation is focused on real users – users have a performed a crucial role in the development of new products, services and social infrastructure. The event, which took place on 5 September, was organised by “Madeira Tecnopolo” and provided an opportunity to debate issues related to innovation, development and technological research which could be most valuable for Madeira  and Portugal.

Given Madeira’s specific characteristics, especially with its mountainous topography and fluid, mixed-nationality population, it is a region that is a living laboratory for information and communication technology (ICT), mobile telecommunications and human-computer interaction. Integration in the European Network of Living Labs will allow “Madeira Tecnopolo” to make a connection with other initiatives in the same area, especially the recent cooperation protocol “Educational Collaboration in Human and Computer Interaction Technologies” made between Carnegie Mellon University (USA), Universidade da Madeira (Madeira University), “Madeira Tecnopolo” and Centro de Ciência e Tecnologia da Madeira (Madeira Science and Technology Centre).

At the invitation of “Madeira Tecnopolo”, ANACOM participated in the workshop through its Madeira delegation, which includes the Advisory Council of Madeira University’s Mathematics and Engineering Department.
